I was ready to put dinner on the table, the phone balanced on my left hand, fast fingers on the keyboard, as always when I vote for the PCA.
Then a beep, a notification of a blog online, and the news, written so simply, in black and white, no bows.
We all knew it, for some time, without being told that.
For many reasons, so closely following the show from the beginning, it was perhaps clearer to us than to the others.
Admitting that it was a certainty, however, we did not even speak.
Read it there, without notice, in a timeline packed with premiere, and returns, and enthusiasm for PCA, left everyone speechless.
Then the first reactions, some shy retweet but none found the strength to tell something.
Till, as so often before, the first to have a thought for fans, raw and true, just as he is, Jay Ryan.
And magically, one after another, all: the cast, the crew, a whole fandom, scattered to the four corners of the earth, all to write how much this adventure was great and inimitable.
All testify to an attachment and involvement never before seen for a TV series.
Hours and hours of messages, all deep, all touching.
Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, BatBForum… wherever you happen to have a look today, you would be invested by the endless, overwhelming testimonies of people who for three years have shared an extraordinary experience, absolutely and definitely unique, raising their voices today, sometimes emotional, sometimes even a bit confused, to tell how a TV show went beyond what is thought to be a TV show, marking their lives.
If idealistically all wished that Beauty and the Beast was endless, realistically we all know to have lived three years precious, three seasons strenuously took but in such a way unexpected.
Then the optimistic side of us, the reassuring voice of Reason whispers in our ear that we should not be sad, we had sooo much, everything we experienced together was not in vain, everything that is born will never get lost and we will continue in our lives, as in careers, enriched by all that Beauty and the Beast has meaning.
It has a nice talk the Reason…
Today the Heart refuses to listen.
It is not the heart that stands still without a fight.
It is not the heart that accepts waste.
It is not the heart that surrenders.
But… but… the Reason today is indeed right.
There is nothing to do against a decision taken long ago.
A decision that recognizes predictable, natural.
Nothing more to fight for.
Nothing more to hope for.
Perhaps it is really worth listening to the little voice today, and think that today is not the end, that will come the summer and will bring thirteen wonderful episodes.
And emotions, heart-pounding, chills and goosebumps, once more time, although it will be the last.
It ‘s a moment, unfortunately.
Thinking immediately runs fast in Toronto, the Studios, the set, where today the last month of the magic that has made this possible is beginning.
Three episodes will be filmed and over.
Warehouses emptied, removed panels, small items stored, packaged costumes, the last light off behind a closed door, and… that’s it.
It will be over.
Yes, of course, there will be a party, and cupcakes, and greetings, promises to keep in touch, perhaps a few tears.
Then everyone will go his way.
As always, as at the end of each journey.
Via, momentum, new experiences and new adventures.
Someone together, someone for their lonely road.
Us who are thousands of kilometers away, in time zones away, bound to each other by something that now has won the distance… Us… how shall we say them goodbye???
How will we overcome the oceans and mountains, to be there to hug them, and hold them strongly and vibrate our voice so intensely and irresistibly to make them feel that we love them and we will never stop loving them???
The same posts, the same people, who flooded the social with melancholy sadness, this morning, they gave me the answer.
Yesterday, less than two hours before the news of the end of Beauty and the Beast was broken, we all, with the usual unfailing enthusiasm, with the energy of all times, began to vote to ensure a nomination to Beauty and the Beast, and Jay and Kristin as actors, for the annual edition of the People’s Choice Awards.
Amid such stunning commotion, amid the bewilderment, the melancholy, it was wonderful, overwhelming, seeing as nobody, NOBODY had thought, even for a moment, to stop voting.
Because it is useless.
Because there is nothing left to fight for.
No future guarantees.
No network to convince.
No advertiser to impress.
Perhaps because of that, this week, and hopefully next month we will vote like we never voted, with an intensity, a force, a determination that we not even know to have, but that is within us .
And I know I’m not alone.
Because this time is useless … true.
This time we do it for them.
Because if Beauty and the Beast was a play, performed on a stage instead of a TV show broadcast on the screen, we would be the public, in the audience.
And we all would be standing, our eyes flooded with tears, happy with the naive happiness that only children or who know how a child experiences even can feel, our hands consumed til the heat and the pain, with all the strength, up, up to the shoulders, unable to stop the clapping, for minutes and minutes to make them feel strong, even stronger in our applause, our warmth, our joy, our gratitude.
The practical utility?
Of a round of applause?
No one probably.
If not the awareness of having at least tried to push back, with the power of the that roar of hands the emotions that were raised from the stage to warm our hearts.
Our vote for the People’s Choice Awards this year will be our applause.
Our way of crying out loud as if the voice is to end now, as if there is no tomorrow:
